  1. How long has iBizSeller been in business?
iBizSeller was started in January 2000 and went on line July 31st, 2000.

  2. What is the purpose of iBizSeller?
To give business sellers an alternative way to advertise the sale of their business and still maintain "confidentiality".

  3. Why should I use iBizSeller instead of other Internet business selling services?
We recommend you use as many services as you can afford. The more exposure you give your business, the greater the chance of selling.

  4. What type of businesses do you list?
Permanent location businesses, sometimes called "brick and mortar" businesses, internet/moveable businesses, lodging businesses and commercial properties. Moveable businesses are those that may be moved without great expense to the buyer. Many moveable businesses are home based types of businesses.

  5. How do I price my business for sale?
Excellent question and very important. How you price your business will determine the activity you get from buyers. There are several ways to approach this. First, ask your accountant to give you an estimate on what your business is worth. Second, try "Ball Park" valuation software. See our "Business Resources" page for a description of "Ball Park". Third, you might try a valuation service. Look in the Yellow Pages for one in your area.

  6. How long will my business be advertised on iBizSeller?
That's up to you. Each advertising period is 1 year, unless you cancel early. 3 days prior to expiration of your 1 year you will receive an e-mail from iBizSeller explaining your options. If you do nothing after receiving this email, your advertising will automatically cancel. If you would like to continue your ad at this time, you may do so.

  7. Why would I want to look at a business you have listed when the "cash flow" is not disclosed?
That is a seller option. iBizSeller does not control that. We believe it's better to list "cash flow", however, the seller makes that determination. If you want to know that figure, try emailing the seller.

  8. May I use a business broker and advertise my business for sale on iBizSeller?
Yes, but when you fill out the listing form you will be asked if your business is listed with a broker. This information is displayed to all prospective buyers.

  9. May a business broker list my business on iBizSeller for me?
    Yes.

  10. What is "blind" email?
All listings on iBizSeller have an email link for buyers to contact sellers with questions. When this email is sent from buyer to seller through iBizSeller, the sellers email address is not revealed to the buyer. When you respond to the buyer through your email program your email address will be displayed.

  11. When I send an email to a business listed on iBizSeller, why do I have to say whether I'm a buyer or intermediary?
This allows sellers to know exactly who you are. We feel sellers should know who is asking questions about their business.

  12. May I display my website in my listing?
You may list your website address in your listing, however, a complete website page will not be part of your listing.

  13. What is the "Page View" listed on each seller page?
The "Page View" is a counter that let's the seller know how many people have viewed their page.

  14. Is iBizSeller a broker?
    No.

  15. Does iBizSeller accept businesses for sale from outside the United States?
    Yes.

    1. General Business category accepts the United States, Carribbean, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

    2. Lodging category accepts businesses from most of the world.

    3. Commercial category accepts from North America.

  16. How many businesses sell in the first 30 days?
Very few businesses will sell in 30 days, regardless of where you advertise. It is estimated there are over one million businesses for sale annually in the United States. About 20% will sell during the first 12 months. Some will never sell. Price, terms and location will all dictate whether a business sells quickly or not. Sellers can't think in days, but months, when it comes to selling their business. Be wary of those "success stories" that claim businesses were sold in 3, 14 or even 30 days. Very few businesses sell this quickly.

  17. Why do I get so many e-mails from brokers?
Brokers and others will use sites like iBizSeller to try and pick up listings or sell you something. Most of these e-mails will appear to be from a prospective buyer. iBizSeller screens all e-mails sent to sellers and deletes those that are obviously SPAM, but it's hard to catch all of them. Most of these e-mails will ask for "all details" or "call me ASAP". The best guidance we can give is to use discretion when talking with anyone about your business.

  18. Do you get a commission when my company sell?
No. We are not brokers. There is no commission taken when you sell your company through iBizSeller.

  19. Do you screen buyers?
    No.
